September: Empathy is the theme as we start our fifth grade year. We want to make sure that everyone around us is feeling included and safe, and by being empathetic and putting ourselves in someone else's shoes, we can act in a more helpful way.
In the video, we counted how many acts of kindness we saw, and how empathy might have helped the people to act this way. And in the end, the first person who acted kindly and out of empathy was also helped by his own actions. October: "Your actions are your monuments." In the spirit of that, our video encourages you to speak up and be brave! In and out of the classroom, we want to make sure we not only have empathy, but we speak up if something hurts others our ourselves.
In class we talked about how the dancers must have felt silly when they danced with no music, and people might have laughed. It was probably hard to do! But they were brave, did their job, and created something great because of that bravery. We can do the same, by speaking out when it is hard, and standing for what is right. November: Keep Moving Forward! All mistakes or failures are a chance to learn and do better next time. We want to always stay positive, and understand that we will not always succeed, but we will always learn and try better next time. |
